Dragon’s Loyalty Award

Thanks to Kayla over at Perfecting Patty for The Dragon’s Loyalty blog award! Apparently, this award is a combination of The Versatile Blogger Award and The Very Inspiring Blogger Award (cool, a two-fer! 🙂 ). This is the second award she’s nominated me for, the first being a Liebster Award. I’m glad she’s a fan!

So, the “rules”:

  1. Display the Award Certificate on your website
  2. Announce your win with a post and link to whoever presented your award
  3. Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers (I think I’ll do ten.)
  4. Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them in the post
  5. Post 7 interesting things about yourself.

Okay, so 1 and 2, check. 3 and 4 after 5.

Seven Interesting Things About Me (disclaimer: These types of questions are my bane 😉 )

1) I’ve been an aircraft mechanic, working on F/A-18 Hornets while in the Navy.

2) I was treated to a Cirque du Soleil show in Hong Kong after giving a French-Canadian woman a tour of the flight deck on the John C. Stennis. I even got to eat with the performers and go backstage after the show 🙂 Awesome experience at a time when I was feeling pretty low.

3) My first experience with karaoke came in New Zealand.

4) I used to perform “Baby Got Back” so much that people actually started requesting it!

5) I helped chase down what we thought were truant sailors while on Shore Patrol in Victoria, Canada. It turned out to be a trio of very nice Canadian guys, who took it all in stride.

6) I completely pissed off one young woman while at journalism school when I did better on an article that I had written drunk and at 2:00 in the morning than she did after spending 6-7 hours on it sober. On the off-off-chance she sees this; sorry, Sara (but it did make me feel great).

7) I have three stories scheduled to be published in 2014.

On to my 10:

Anja at Oh Pithy Me

EA Wicklund at Momus News

Kerri Ann Salsac at Writing For Life

Janna at JannaTWrites

C.C. at consciouscacophony

Yeshasvi Mahadev at TinyPurpleMe

iamfunny2 at JED’s Playhouse

Katie Kurtz at e.g. | a writing blog

Glynis at The Between

Momo at Momosapien

So there’s my ten. If any of you wish to participate, wonderful. If not, I completely understand. Just know that I like each of your blogs.

There you have it. Thanks again to Kayla for the award! And to all my followers and other readers, Thank You!

Happy Reading and Writing!

J. Milburn

Liebster Questions from Conscious Cacophony

Congratulations to Conscious Cacophony on being nominated for the Liebster Award! C. C. runs a great site that you should definitely check out. She, very kindly, gave me a shout-out in her list of Liebster nominees. I wasn’t nominated because I already have two nominations, but she still mentioned me, which I appreciate greatly. So, in honor of her kindness, I’ll answer the questions she posited to her nominees.

1. How did you pick your blog name?

I chose Writing To Be Noticed because I felt it fit what I was trying to accomplish. My writing is one thing I can offer to the world and the worst thing for a writer is to be ignored (unless you write for therapy purposes). Plus, all the cool names were taken 😉

2. Do you blog anonymously or as yourself and why did you make this choice?

While my name is right in my URL, I went with a more anonymous route. I went that route because I have a face suited for radio 🙂 So you will know my name, but don’t count on any pictures of me popping up on site anytime soon (read: ever!).

3. If you could live anywhere in the world, then where would you live?

Somewhere with no snow!

4. In your opinion, what is the most beautiful man-made object in the world?

My kids 😉

5. What is the most interesting course you have ever taken in school?

I took a course called Politics and Religion. I can only assume the instructors were masochists that enjoyed pain. Luckily(?), it was online, so no “Jerry! Jerry!” moments.

6. What is your favorite saying or quotation?

“Writing is like vagrancy, only less lucrative.” Thanks to B. Mac at Super Hero Nation for that one!

7. If you could have 50 pounds of anything, other than money, what would you want to have?

50 pounds of lost weight!

8. If you had to wear a button with a maximum of six words on it describing your outlook on life, what would your button say?

What the hell just happened here?

9. What/where was your favorite vacation and why?

Not really a vacation, but the cruise I took in 2000 while in the Navy. We stopped in various places like Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. I experienced various cultures and sights during our shore leave.

10. What is one job that no one could pay you enough to do?

I don’t know if there is one. I’m mercenary like that. 🙂

11. If you could only see ONE color, rather than a wide range of colors, then what color would you want to continue seeing?

Orange is my favorite, but I would probably be sick of it if it were the only one I could see. I’ll go with blue.

Thanks again to C. C. for mentioning me in your award post!

Liebster Award

Thanks to Genimsaj at Naturally Black  for nominating me for my second Liebster Award! Since this is my second time, I will answer the questions and provide the link back (see above), but won’t create my own and send them out again. I’m always excited to hear that people like my writing and I am honored to be nominated!

To the questions!

1) What made you decide that you should write a blog?

Honestly, a woman I work with has a brother that runs a successful blog and parlayed that idea into a self-published book. That planted the seed and I started with a different blog, Super Genre. I added Writing to Be Noticed, and soon found that two blogs were too much for me. So, Super Genre is on hold while I focus on this one.

2) What ‘s inspires you to write for it?

I’ve found several great writing challenges that provide prompts that spark my creativity. This blog also serves as a “creative workspace” where I can test out characters and ideas that bounce my skull.

3) What’s your greatest fear?

I actually wrote about that! You can find it here.

4) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Tie: Pizza or cheeseburgers.

5)  Riddle: Give me food and I’ll live, Give me water I’ll die. What am I? (Guess first)

The Wicked Witch of the West?

6) Why did you choose WordPress to start your blog?

It’s free!

7) How long have you been blogging?

Since early September overall, mid-September for this particular blog.

8) If there was one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be?

Is everything one thing? I would have to say my weight.

9) What do you want to do as a profession? (Or what do you currently do as your profession?)

Teacher and writer. I have the teaching license, I just need the job now. This blog is a way to help me with the writer part!

10) Are you happy with life?

Depends on the day…or hour…or minute you ask me 😉

Thanks so much for the nomination!
