Carpe Diem Tanka Shrine: “Ice slowly recedes”

A Carpe Diem Special today is the “Tanka Shrine” where Kristjaan gives us a Tanka to use as inspiration for our own. This will be my first time actually writing a Tanka, which follows this format: 5 lines with a syllable count of 5-7-5-7-7. Think Tan Renga, only this is one writer.

Our Tanka this week comes from Geraldine of “My Poetic Path”:

ice slowly recedes
geese explore the warming lake
sunshine lights the scene
winter’s debris now in view
cleansing rain to follow soon

(c) Geraldine of “My Poetic Path”

Here is mine, inspired by hers:

Weeks-long slumber ends
Apollo’s golden shafts strike
forcing frost’s retreat
Nature returns to glory
new life blossoms once again

Hope you enjoy.

Happy Reading and Writing!
